Sliding into spring

It’s been quiet here on Ski the BC for the past few weeks as we’ve been away SUPing (my SUP blog is here) in Hawaii and biking in Washington…and getting some fine backcountry laps in the Rossland Range in between. Some late season dumps brought some of the finest powder of the year to Red Mountain and surrounding slackcountry. Got to love the days of skiing coldsmoke in the morning and ripping fresh dirt in the eve.

Hopefully April will bring some nice touring days and maybe even inspire another web edit, but until then it’s going to be biking, trail building and more biking. If you want to follow what’s up on that end, check out my website Cycleye.com. I recently launched the site for my mountain bike coaching and instruction program. There’s a blog that will cover everything from racing to rides to bikes.

Happy spring sliding!

Spring ka-pow

After a week of SUP surfing in Hawaii, we’re happy to see it snowed almost a metre in the mountains while we were away. It certainly feels like spring out there, but fortunately the snow on north aspects has held up nicely. Hopefully we’ll have an April half as fine as last year. Here’s Christine on her new skis…look ma, no board!

Another avalanche tragedy

Another report today of a tragic avalanche that killed two people in the Grand Tetons. One of the victims, Steve Romeo, was an active blogger about the backcountry and espoused backcountry safety at every turn. His site TetonAT was one of my favourites. Also in the avalanche was Jackson Hole long time employee Chris Onufer. My deepest sympathies to their friends and family. Play safe out there.
